Water main break at Wyndham and Macdonell being repaired today

Macdonell Street closed between Wyndham and Carden Streets

Guelph, Ont., October 1, 2018—A water main break occurred just east of the intersection of Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street early this morning.

Guelph Police Services is assisting with the road closure of Macdonell Street between Wyndham and Carden Street. Water is bubbling up and pooling on the street, which has caused the road to sink.

City staff are on-site repairing the water main break. Provided there are no additional complications, water main repairs will be done by late this evening and the road will be repaved tomorrow.

People living and working in the area may notice disruptions in water service and changes in water pressure.

Traffic and transit impacts

Macdonell Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic between Wyndham Street North and Carden Street, until further notice. Drivers are encouraged to plan extra time for travel and avoid the downtown area if possible.

All Guelph Transit routes that access Guelph Central Station are being detoured around the area until further notice. Buses will use Wyndham and Carden streets as the detour route. Riders are encouraged to plan extra time for travel. Visit guelphtransit.ca for more information.

Pedestrian and cycling access

Sidewalks along both sides of Macdonell Street will remain open.

Cyclists can walk their bikes through the area using the sidewalks.

The City will provide updates at guelph.ca and on Facebook (facebook.com/cityofguelph) and Twitter (twitter.com/cityofguelph) should anything change, or once repairs are complete.
