What sets apart Craig Parkin, founder and owner of ParkIN Fitness is knowledge, personal application and experience and results – both personal and with clients. Honors graduate in Human Kinetics, his education focused on the anatomy, physiology, and bio-mechanical function of the human body. He worked for the University of Guelph personal training department while studying to complete his degree in kinetics. This is an important set apart reason to investigate his programs.
Kinesiology is the study of movement, from Greek kinesin, ‘to move’ and logia ‘to study’. Equipped with a degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph Craig is a specialist in a wide array of assessments and programming to aid with both injury and illness prevention, as well as injury management. Craig uses kinesiology to develop therapeutic fitness programs to support a healthy and active life for himself, and clients.
Craig began his journey into fitness “with tenacity, ignorance, and a desire to change. My first week as a student at the University of Guelph set the stage for a lifelong endeavor” of constantly improving his health, and ultimately the health of his clients. Craig applies his personal knowledge and education when developing programs “to optimize the human body and attain specialized results.” The knowledge, experience, and nutrition background he has together with resistance training has evolved powerful body composition changes for his clients.
Craig worked at the University of Guelph gym from 2011 as a Personal Trainer and Weight Training Supervisor. Once graduating, he worked at Flynn Fitness gaining experience. When this business closed he opened up ParkIN Fitness in May of 2015 training clients at parks around Guelph with his own equipment. For three years he operated ParkIN Fitness out of a local gym, and during the spring, summer and fall he trained clients outdoors at parks in Guelph and in-gym.
Craig offers in-home or in-apartment training locally and surrounding areas of Rockwood, Kitchener, and Waterloo. During the Spring, Summer and Fall he offers small group training at Guelph parks. Couples training is also available, training related or unrelated clients at the same session time.
One of these clients is Courtney, who sought Craig out to get healthy and fit. The before and after pictures speak for themselves. Not only is she fit, and healthy – she looks tremendously happy with her new-found energy and lifestyle. Personal training involved commitment from the client, and a willingness to learn and grow – to adapt to lifestyle changes and focus on results.
Courtney had an active childhood, yet priorities changes during high school and post secondary studies as she was focusing on her academics. In 2016 she took control and joined the gym. After losing 20 pounds on her own over five months, she joined ParkIN Fitness and worked with Craig for the next year. Over this year of training lost another 35 pounds of pure fat with learning weight lifting and program design with Craig’s guidance. Courtney has used what Craig taught her about working out and nutrition to continue to lose weight and building strength, bringing her total weight loss to date of 82 total pounds over two years.
Leading an active and healthy life is cornerstone to a happy life. Personal training done by a professional restores efficient movements after an injury in everyday life, whether this is a regular or a more intense sports-focused lifestyle. It corrects mobility or sports muscle injuries and prevents re-injury by regaining flexibility.
The programs offered at Parkin Fitness tailored to the client, considering the client’s age, state of health and overall fitness level. Craig then designs a program molded to meet your goals and requirements. Getting you fit, losing weight and body mass, keep you healthy is the gym’s number one priority.
You can expect quicker and superior results by using a personal trainer, making the time you spend working out more efficient. Working with a trainer has increased results over 40% than without in recent studies. Usual goals when working out are fat loss and muscle gain. A program designed by a personal trainer incorporates the right exercises for the right goals, and in less time than usual unattended workouts. On the treadmill five mornings a week and not seeing results, you should call Craig for a personal consultation.
We have all seen the gym fails of new members risking injury simply due to inexperience and knowledge when using machines or weights at the gym. A personal trainer teaches you the proper form and techniques (and yes, that newfangled machine you cannot figure out), so you train safe and injury-free.
Like everything, exercise can be habit forming, which is a good thing. A personal trainer can motivate you to find ways to make healthy living and exercise a priority. They are there to help you overcome obstacles that are preventing you from exercising, and work with you to set many, smaller and achievable goals.
A plateau happens to many; what a plateau is staying at one level and not losing those ten pounds, or not gaining those toned upper arms despite flogging the gym several days a week. You get stuck. A personal trainer is a specialist in exercise and is there to help you overcome plateaus. When you hit a plateau in your exercise routine, it can be hard to push through and stay motivated. A personal trainer can help you understand why you hit a plateau and find ways for you to work through it and see more results.
You can follow Craig on YouTube, where he will be continuing to upload instructional videos for exercise form, mobility and stretching, and eventually diet and food preparation. Instagram and Facebook channels promote client successes as well as instructional material to help people exercise properly. ParkIN Fitness has a sign up for a Free Personal training session and free water bottle. A great way to start a fitness journey and meet the man behind the local fitness movement.
Craig feels that “throughout the years starting from working out with ignorance to owning my own personal training business my own personal focus has transitioned from body building to fat loss and now over to powerlifting. I feel that taking years to learn a variety of exercise styles allows me to have a deeper insight into fitness and how to attain results in each of those fitness styles.”
What better Personal Trainer to work with, yet with one who has walked the walk through his own personal journey of development. Understanding where your clients are coming from is a valuable and often lacking characteristic of personal training professionals.
