PUSLINCH — Wellington County OPP are identifying Matthew Courtney, 40, of Guelph as the victim who died in a two-vehicle collision over the weekend.

On Saturday Sept. 22 at around 5 a.m., Wellington County OPP officers were called to the scene of a serious collision at the intersection of Brock and Maltby roads in Puslinch Township.

Courtney, a Guelph man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Const. Joshua Cunningham said the two vehicles involved were a black and brown sedan. The brown sedan, driven by Courtney, is believed to have been travelling east on Maltby and the black vehicle was going south on Brock. The collision took place in the intersection and both vehicles were sent off the road to the southeast corner.

A woman around the age of Courtney was seated in the passenger seat of the brown car. She was taken to hospital, along with the driver of the black car, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers are still investigating how the collision could have occurred. Cunningham said the changing light at dawn may have played a factor in this crash. Investigators are also looking at whether the brown vehicle stopped fully at the stop sign.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
