On April 21, 2020 at 12:49 p.m., the Guelph Police Service were contacted regarding a suspicious male inside a grocery store located near the intersection of Kortright Road West and Edinburgh Road South in the City of Guelph.
When the male was approached by police, he was carrying and eating chicken (valued at $10) that he ordered from the hot meal area of the store. He also took an energy drink out from under his shirt and placed it back on the shelf. The male had no means of payment for the food.
Further investigation revealed that the male had also [allegedly] put a kiwi down the back of his pants, taken it out and thrown it back on the shelf with other kiwis. The store was then forced to throw away all the kiwis on the shelf.
At 1:03 p.m., the male was arrested.
A 25-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
• Theft under $5,000
• Mischief under $5,000
He will appear in court on Aug. 7.
