Male in the giving spirit, as well as the taking spirit

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Guelph Police were in retail store on Silvercreek Parkway on an unrelated matter when they were advised that a male was shoplifting in the store.

It was also learned that this male was currently wanted for two counts of Failing to Comply with an OIC Undertaking, four counts of breaching his Probation, two counts of Theft Under $5000, two counts of breaching his Recognizance, and two counts of Failing to Re-Attend Court.

The male was arrested in the store with several items that did not belong to him.  Also located on the male was individually wrapped packages of what is believed to be Fentanyl, with a street value of approximately $1000.  Christopher HANLEY, a 38-year-old Guelph male, was charged with Theft Under $5000, Fail to Re-Attend Court, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  HANLEY appeared in court on December 2, 2018.

Gun, pepper spray, and a knife arrest

On November 30, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a motel in the area of Silvercreek Parkway and Woodlawn Road in regard to a male with a gun.

Two males, Stephen WILSON, a 28-year-old Guelph male, and Steven GOLDRICK, a 27-year-old Guelph male, got into a verbal altercation when WILSON pulled out a gun and threatened GOLDRICK.  At this point, GOLDRICK and WILSON parted ways and WILSON gave the gun to a third male, Jessie MARESCH, a 27-year-old Guelph male. MARESCH then took the gun, located GOLDRICK and threatened him with the gun.

As WILSON and MARESCH attempted to leave the motel, GOLDRICK threatened MARESCH with a knife, and WILSON got into a cab and left.  As this was happening, Jasmine PAYNTER, a 25-year-old Guelph female, got into a verbal altercation with another female, and PAYNTER peppered sprayed the female.  WILSON was stopped a short distance away in a cab and was arrested.

As a result of this interaction, WILSON was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (believed to be Fentanyl), Uttering Threats, Weapons Dangerous, and three counts of breaching his Probation Order.  MARESCH was charged with Uttering Threats, and Weapons Dangerous.  GOLDRICK was charged with Weapons Dangerous. PAYNTER was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Weapons Dangerous, and Failing to Comply with a Recognizance.  WILSON and PAYNTER were held for bail hearing, while GOLDRICK and MARESCH are to appear in court in January.

Police located a firearm that was a .177 Calibre Crossman BB air pistol.  It was located in the motel room of WILSON and MARESCH.

RIDE CHECK

On the night of December 1, 2018 and into the early morning of December 2, 2018, Guelph Police conducted RIDE.  Approximately 600 cars were checked.  8 Roadside Demands were administered and from that, 1 driver received a 72 hour driver’s licence suspension.

Vehicle took off from police – public assistance required

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 4:20 p.m., Guelph Police were in the area of Stone Road and South Ring Road when a vehicle was clocked going 130 km/hr.  The vehicle did not stop for Police and was last seen going westbound on Stone Road, where it maneuvered around Monticello Road and then went south on Gordon Street at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle is described as a white Toyota Camry with an older body style, possibly a 2008-2011 model, and dark tint.

Calls for service

From Friday, November 30, 2018, at 6:00 a.m., until Monday, December 3, 2018 at 6:00 a.m., Guelph Police dealt with 575 calls for service.
