Local Guelph Teacher Claims Silver Medal at Vetran Judo World Championships

Congratulations Amanda McAlpine on her Silver Medal performance at the Vetran Judo World Championships held in Morocco this past weekend.

Amanda McAlpine is a Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute teacher in Guelph who in 2018 was the recipient of the Judo Ontario Veteran Female Athlete of the Year award.

In Amanda’s own words:

To my Coaches and training partners,

I’d like to extend a huge thank-you to the coaches and training partners at Sisu Kohbukan Judo and Jiu Jitsu Club. I am humbled and honoured by your contributions and support in training …and most recently with the Veteran Judo World’s in Morocco.

The precise and individualized coaching, the efforts from training partners, and the demand for excellence, definitely had massive impact on performance at World’s.

Everything that was worked on at our dojo was exactly what was needed on the mats at World’s. The physical, technical, tactical, and psychological training has been superb and was spot on in preparation for World’s. The coaching has been incredible.

Special thanks to the Friday Competitive Judo training group– it is hard work, but it’s so worth the results. Thank-you for pushing and hanging in during high intensity – the work really pays off. Muhammad Ali said, “The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.” This resonates…

Thank you Sisu Kohbukan team… Coaches and training partners.

I have never been more proud to represent Canada and our club and am overwhelmed with gratitude. Looking forward to continuing the journey!

Many thanks,

Amanda
