Guelph Police Pilot Project – Downtown Presence

Guelph Police

Downtown Resource Officers

The Guelph Police Service will be initiating a six month pilot project that will greatly increase our visibility and engagement in our Downtown Community.  Starting on April 1st, 2020, four additional uniform patrol officers will begin operating as full-time Downtown Resource Officers. These new officers will join our current Downtown Resource Officer Constable Mark O’Connell in the important work he does. This new unit will be lead by Sergeant Dustan Howe.

This initiative is in alignment with our current Strategic Plan “Moving Forward Together” which was developed in consultation with our Community and our Partner Agencies.  Working together with the residents, business owners and visitors to our downtown, the goal of this initiative is to develop an effective and long term strategy to ensure our downtown remains a safe, vibrant and thriving part of our community.

Police Service Board Chair Mr. Don Drone along with Chief Cobey, Sgt Howe and the members of our Downtown Resource Officer Unit will be hosting an information session for members of the media at 1pm on Thursday March 12th at Guelph Police Service Headquarters located at 15 Wyndham Street South. Interested members of the media are asked to RSVP to Constable Kyle Grant at kgrant@guelphpolice.ca to reserve a spot.
