Like everyone else in the Durham Region, we are disappointed and saddened to hear the news of GM’s closure in Oshawa.
100 years ago, GM invested in R.S McLaughlin and the McLaughlin Motor Car Company, which in 1918 became GM Canada, with R.S. McLaughlin as the President.
Sam & Adelaide McLaughlin believed in this community, and it’s citizens choosing Oshawa as the home for General Motors for over 100 years.
History has shown that through their philanthropy and innovative business practices, the McLaughlin’s believed that the fabric of Oshawa and GM Canada could and should always be intertwined.
Our thoughts are with the thousands of employees, local businesses and all of the family and community members who will be impacted by this global decision. #oshawastrong
