Special Investigations Unit (S.I.U.) investigation Update:
On December 12, 2018 at approximately 3:15 a.m., Guelph Police attended a call regarding a person trespassing at a business on Wyndham Street North. A 47-year-old Guelph male was arrested and suffered an injury during his arrest. On December 13, 2018, the Special Investigations Unit invoked their mandate to investigate this incident. On October 7, 2019, the Interim Director of the SIU reported to the Chief of Police that the investigation into this injury has been completed with no grounds in the evidence to proceed with criminal charges against the subject officer.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must:
• consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
• based on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
• report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General

Swastika sign spray painted on Elections Signs
Sometime overnight between October 7/8, 2019, there were five election signs spray painted with swastika’s signs. The elections signs were posted in the Edinburgh Rd and Woodlawn Rd area. On October 8, 2019, a male attended the Guelph General Hospital emergency dept. There he became disruptive and was asked to leave by security as he was not seeking medical attention. While being escorted by security the male’s behaviour escalated and he assaulted one of the security guards. He was placed under arrest by security and turned over to Guelph Police. The security guard was treated at the hospital for his injuries and released. A 51 year old male will appear in court on November 22, 2019 for assault and breach of probation.
In the last 24 hours two vehicles flee from police traffic stops
In the last 24 hours a motorcycle and a car have fled Guelph officers when they attempted to stop them for traffic investigations. At 7:03 PM, on October 7, 2019, an officer attempted to stop a motorcycle in the area of Edinburgh Rd and Water St. The motorcycle fled and the officer did not initiate a pursuit. The motorcycle was last seen heading east on Water St., from Edinburgh Rd. Anyone with information is ask to contact email@example.com. On October 8, 2019, at 4:36 AM, in the area of Silvercreek Pkwy N and Greengate Dr., a Guelph police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic offence. When the officer initiated a traffic stop the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed north bound on Silvercreek Pkwy N from Greengate Dr. The officer discontinued the pursuit. The vehicle is described as a Blue Hyundai Elantra. There was possibly 3 occupants with the driver of the vehicle wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
